Journal entries about Day 3: Genesis 27:38 to Genesis 38:30 (page 36)

Just a couple of things...

Submitted by Jill Williams on Thu, 06/26/2008 - 17:11.

Okay, I know I'm late with this entry. I did do my reading yesterday, I just didn't get a chance to journal.

Okay, just a couple of things:
1. The part where Jacob wrestles with God. Uh, what was up with that?
2. God killed Onan. Okay, 1) that does not sound like a loving God or a God worth worshipping. 2) Many Christians use that passage to say that masterbation's a sin. But (I think) cleary the sin was actually that he didn't get Tamar pregnant like the Jewish law required.

Help Me Lord

Help me be the woman you have called me to be. My life is Yours. Do with me whatever You choose. I trust You Lord. Help me keep the commitment to read, study, and meditate on, Your Word daily. I love You Lord.

FAVOUR!

Submitted by Beatrice Agaba on Wed, 02/20/2008 - 12:07.

I'm simply overwhwlmed by the beauty of God's word and mostly His favour displayed in these stories.
God blessed Abrahama and His offspring until they were feared EVERYWHER they went. The seeds I sow in my relationship with God now and the convenanats that I make will deeeply afest Generatons to come!
That realisation makes me focus less on short term but ratehr to know that God will keep His promise to generations if I walk with Him closely.

The favour of God on His people is amazing in these stories regardless of tehir performance. God blesed Jacob yet he hadnot "performed" as regards the way we would think of a person God would bless. That proves to me that God loves us. It is not based on performance or whatever..moreover, for us,Christ finished it. He just loves us and will bless and protect us at ALL costs and prosper us. I just see LOVE bouncing off the pages of the Bible and Iam amazed. i feel I can come closer to God..He is more loving than I imagined and our love is drawn from His limitless love!

Day 3 Thoughts

Submitted by Brent Paschall on Sat, 12/15/2007 - 08:35.
  • There appear to be an infinite number of ways to corrupt and poison the ideal home life that God intends. We will never be able to enjoy that ideal without serious thinking and praying. Otherwise we will either repeat the mistakes of our parents, or invent a whole new collection of foolishness guaranteed to make ourselves and our loved ones miserable.
  • God has so much mercy on His people.
  • When God has plans for you, He does not leave you alone until He has accomplished them. Thank God!
  • Everything that Jacob thought he had gotten for himself by hook and crook, or even by the sweat of his brow, God had in fact provided for him. This is true of us as well.

I just think that it's amazing that God uses faulty humans for His purpose and His plan.

A Renewed Reading

Submitted by Susan Geyer on Mon, 07/09/2007 - 16:37.

Though I've read the Bible in bits and pieces throughout the years, for some reason this reading (in 90 Days) seems to be more focused and thought provoking. Glad I accepted the challenge.

LHBC Day 3

Submitted by Travis Smalley on Sat, 06/23/2007 - 13:58.

You can really see God's blessings on Jacob's life. My prayer is that God's hand would be on me, and that I to might find His favor and receive His blessings.

Observations/Questions from Day 3 Reading

Submitted by Amanda Holland on Thu, 06/14/2007 - 11:36.

*Gen. 31:10-13 - Is this a real dream that he had, or is it just another one of his manipulative lies?

*Gen. 35:11 - "And God said to him, 'I am God Almighty; be fruitful and increase in number.'" - I just thought this was entertaining - as if he didn't already have enough kids! "Have more! More! More!" :P

*Gen. 35:27 - "Jacob came home to his father Isaac in Mamre, near Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed." In Gen. 27, you get the feeling that Isaac is on his deathbed, but here it is at LEAST 14 years since Jacob left, and Isaac's still hanging on.

*Gen 38:26 - "Judah recognized them and said, 'She is more righteous than I, since I wouldn't give her to my son Shelah.'" How is she more righteous?

Day 3

Submitted by Deacon B on Sat, 06/09/2007 - 11:12.

Although I'm still a little behind schedule, I'm feeling good about how much ground I've made up since falling behind on Day 1. I don't think I've ever read so much of the Bible in a 24 hour period so it's a great experience thus far -- even as reality begins to set in -- 90 Days of reading at this pace will be very challenging. The great thing about that is that I must rely on God each day to give me the strength and discipline to carry on.
