Finished!

Submitted by javamamma S on Tue, 04/11/2006 - 23:55.

Just finished tonight. Wow! What an amazing few months diving into God's Word. I will spend the rest of the year pondering slowly through different books of the Bible, starting in Psalms. To those who are in this journey, persevere! You will find this challenge very rewarding!

almost done

I have 3 days of reading left that I hope to finish in 2. My bday is Tuesday and I though it was a good goal to finish by that day. It's amazing how fast I've read throught the NT. I just started James tonight but have been convicted by the truths I've read tonight. It may be a book I do further study in later this year.

journaling again

Submitted by javamamma S on Wed, 04/05/2006 - 00:43.

Been a long time since I journaled about my reading. Skipped a few days over the last weekend - busyness. It is my goal to be done by my bday though - which is next Tuesday so I hope to catch up a couple days.
Tonight, as I read Acts, a few things stuck out to me but I'll comment on one. It's in Acts 13:36 - "when David had served God's purposes in his own generation, he fell asleep.." I want to serve God's purpose in MY generation. Also I guess Acts 20:24 goes along with that. "if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me.." I want to COMPLETE every task th

crossed into the new testament today....
Matt. 16:23 "...you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of man." This is very thought-provoking to me today.
Oh Lord let me have Your mind and Your thoughts.

God's word to me today

A love note from Jesus -
Zeph. 3:17 The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing."

abounding in love

movin' right along...dah, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah....or something like that!
These "prophet books" sometimes bring bleak news but they always seem to end with restoration! Praise God for His redeeming plan, His longing to draw all men to Himself, no matter how far they stray.
A favorite quote found in several verses throughout the Bible.... "for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love" (Joel 2:13) Amen!

uncalled for sacrifice?

Submitted by javamamma S on Sun, 03/19/2006 - 01:42.

Another book down! But I really am learning new things from these OT prophets. :o) It's interesting to me in Dan. 2:18 the young men were praying to keep their lives and then in Dan. 3:16-18, they are quite willing to die for God. I think many throw themselves into sacrifice even if it's not required of them at that time. Praying through some things, rather than turning over and dying, is God's requirement and other times He requires that sacrifice. We have to be willing to obey not matter what His call is.

shepherds & sheep

Because we are pastors, Ez. 34 really spoke to me. I do not want the Lord to say of us..."you have not strengthened the weak or healed the sick or bound up the injured. You have not brought back the strays or searched for the lost." ..... I want us to be found faithful in caring for HIS sheep, HIS flock. Leading them through rich, thick pastures and being careful not to lead them straight into trouble. Lord, give us wisdom!

a good purpose

Submitted by javamamma S on Mon, 03/13/2006 - 01:14.

I seem to be just slogging through Jeremiah. I have came across lots of familiar verses - some I knew were in Jeremiah, others I was like "Oh that's where that is". I guess I am most struck by God's faithfulness. He still had a plan - a good purpose - for Israel though they wouldn't listen or obey. He saw that they would eventually repent and return and be led into His awesome destiny for them. Amazing.

your name & renown

Submitted by javamamma S on Mon, 03/06/2006 - 01:58.

Came into Isaiah today. Lots of familiar passages. A couple verses that stuck out to me today:
Is. 26:8-9 ....Your name and renown are the desire of our hearts. My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you.
vs. 8 is the cry of mine and my husband's hearts in the midst of our church & community.
I thought I might "catch up" in my reading this weekend but I actually got another day behind. So today I finally did 2 days of reading so I am not any extra days behind.
