Repetitive themes I noticed in week two readings…
Holiness – everything that God is – it separates Him from us. We reflect God’s attributes in our lives. People see this – being Holy. Law designed to help us be like God.
Caring for God’s presence – relate to him – initiative is God establishing a relationship and setting his presence, and revealing himself to us. Importance that His presence be honored – it is a great honor.
Sacrifices helped the people work with God’s presence. They were done at the temple to keep God’s presence clean and Holy. A place where God dwelled – not a place for a lot of people to go to meet like our current churches. His presence needed to be treated with GREAT respect! We need to be just as concerned about caring for God’s presence. Care for it carefully in our lives. Protect God’s presence to renew our relationship with Him.
Numbers – discussed about rebellion and transition from first generation (died in wilderness) to generation entering the promised land – a new generation to gain promises of God.
Deuteronomy
God’s charter, renewal document. The Law follows along with the 10 Commandments. Prepares them to enter the land and seek fulfillment of God’s blessing in the covenant.
10 Commandments
Important statement, “No other God’s before me.” No other God’s in his presence.
Use God’s name wisely – not in vain.
In the end, law is part of God’s revelation – revealing what he is like and what is important to him.
